RK Haldorai Biography

Dr. R.K. Haldorai B.A. (Tamil Lit), M.O.L. (Tamil), M.Ed, M.A. (Gandhian Thoughts), Ph.D.
(Comparative Linguistics)

Dr RK Haldorai, was born on the 2nd of December 1952, as the fifth among seven siblings. His parents, Shri Raita Kullan and Smt Maathiammal, were humble Badaga farmers from Kiiye Kowhatty village, Nilgiris District, Tamilnadu, India. His father, as a young boy aged 8 years, happened to work in the palace of Mysore for a few years, thereby earning the title ‘Raita’. Dr Haldorai is survived by his spouse Mrs Shanthi and daughter Mrs Gayathri. Dr Haldorai did his primary education from CSI Elementary School, Kil-Kowhatty and went on the complete his high-school from the Government High School, Nanjanad. He graduated in BA Tamil Literature after PUC from the Government Arts College, Ooty (1969 to 1974) and subsequently did his Master of Oriental Language in Tamil from Annamalai University (1975 to 1977). He went on to complete his B.Ed in 1982 and M.Ed in 1986 from the same University. He completed his masters in Ghandian Thought from Madurai Kamaraj University in 1991. He did his Ph.D in ‘In comparative Linguistics (Badaga-Tamil Linguistic study)’ from University of Madras in 2001

Appreciation for a Kannada Basavannar Book translation- “I have gone through the entire translated Tamil version of Basavanna’s Vachanas 1293 (stanzas) written by Sri.R.K.Haldorai of Madras. The translation is very good. The Tamil version is spontaneous and conveys the appropriate meaning of Basavanna’s version in Kannada.
