Badagas are an aboriginal hill community living in 300 plus villages

that are spread all across the Nilgiris hills of Tamilnadu, India.

ABOUT THE TRUST

Nelikolu Charitable Trust is a non-profit trust formed in the year 2003

 with a primary objective of documenting the Badaga literature.. We would like to gratefully recall the encouragement of a few senior Badaga statesmen like Tvl. H. Nanjundan of Kundhe Bikkatty, I.R. Loganathan of Ithalar village and Dr. B. Babuji of Bickol village, 

MAIN OBJECTIVE OF THE TRUST

The primary objective of Trust is to document the Badaga Culture and Literature.

SERVING PEOPLE

Apart from documenting the Badaga literature, the Trust has always been in the front to serve the Badaga community through various activities like fighting the legal battle for the farmers, especially the Small Tea Growers. Addressing social disparities in the community. Career guidance for the youth, etc.
Dr. R.K. Haldorai B.A. (Tamil Lit), M.O.L. (Tamil), M.Ed, M.A. (Gandhian Thoughts), Ph.D. (Comparative Linguistics).Born on 2nd December 1952, to a humble peasant family of Kiiye Kavvatty village, Nilgiris Dist, Tamilnadu, India. He was the 1st graduate in the family.

He excelled in the field of Philology. With Badagu as his mother tongue, he qualified himself in many languages like Hindi, Sanskrit, Kannada, Telugu and Malayalam, apart from Tamil and English. He has authored nearly 13 books on the cultural heritage and literature of the ‘Badagars’ of the Nilgiri hills, out of which two were awarded as ‘Best Books’ by the government of Tamilnadu. He is a par excellent translator and has translated umpteen articles from other languages to Tamil and vice-versa. He was awarded the ‘Best Translator’ in 2017 by the Govt of Tamilnadu.

He was a member of the prestigious Directorate of Tamil Etymological Dictionary Project as a ‘Special Grade Compiler’. He solely compiled more than 5000 foreign words with their meanings and origins. He was the Project in-Charge of the Ancient Tamil Encyclopaedia, International Institute of Tamil Studies. He is a life member of ‘Kalaikkazhagam’, ‘Dravidian Linguistic Association, Trivandrum’ and ‘The Archaeological Society, Tanjavur’. He was awarded for his ‘Life Time Achievement’ by the Nelikolu Charitable Trust.

ஹெத்தெ அம்மன்கள் மிக எளிய வாழ்க்கையில் தங்கள் மேன்மைத் தன்மைகளைக் காட்டியுள்ளனர். அவர்கள் காட்டிய மேன்மைத் தன்மைகள் சமுதாயத்து அனைவருக்கும் மனவுறுதியினை அளிக்கும் சமய விளக்குகளாக விளங்குகின்றன. படகுச் சமுதாயத்துச் சமய நம்பிக்கை அழிந்து போகாமல் காத்து வரும் நிறுவனங்களாக ஹெத்தெ வழிபாடுகளும், ஹெத்தெ தொடர்பாக அமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ள ஹெத்தெ மநெ, சுத்து கல்லு, ஹெத்தெ கல்லு போன்றனவும் செயல்பட்டு வருகின்றன. இவை சமய உணர்வுகளை ஊட்டி வருகின்றன.
